Football rankings: Major movement, one player to watch for each team

There is just one month left in the regular season and with league play underway, things are starting to take shape. There is plenty of movement in this week's rankings with more top-10 matchups to come. Here is this week's Gold Mountain CA News top 10: 1. Folsom ( 4-1, 1-0 SFL) The Bulldogs have already taken down one of their biggest challengers to the throne in the daunting SFL in Rocklin and now they have a chance to do so again this week against rival Oak Ridge. Keep an eye on junior receiver Rob Larson, who is averaging over 100 yards per game and has picked up offers from BYU, Wisconsin and Washington since the season began. 2. Oak Ridge (4-1, 2-0 SFL) Defense has been the name of the game for the Trojans as they grinded out two heavy hitting wins against Del Oro and Granite Bay in SFL play. Washington State commit Javon Joseph is a game wrecker on the defensive line and he will be a key factor if Oak Ridge wants to snap its losing streak against Folsom. 3. Granite Bay (4-2, 1-1 SFL) The only losses that the Grizzlies have this season are close ones to Pittsburg and Oak Ridge, but the Grizzlies are still missing a signature win, although the victory over Jesuit is aging well. Isaiah Ene dominates in the running game, but Darnell Turner is averaging 64.7 receiving yards per game and has three picks this year. He will join Ene at Sac State after this season. 4. Del Oro (4-1, 1-1 SFL) I don't think anyone outside of Loomis thought that the Golden Eagles would be 4-1 with their only loss coming by four points to Oak Ridge at this point in the season, but Del Oro has shown that it is back to a winning program. Head coach Josh Parry is making a case for Coach of the Year. Brock Sherman is the latest gritty, hard-nosed Del Oro bruiser in the backfield with 460 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. 5. Woodcreek (5-0, 2-0 CVC) The Timberwolves have shown they can win with an explosive offense and with ferocious defense. Woodcreek hasn't been 5-0 since 2018 during Kyle Stowers' first stint as head coach. Last season Trace Murchison ran for over 400 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore. This year he is averaging over 100 receiving yards per game and has hauled in five scores. 6. Twelve Bridges (5-0) It may not always be pretty, but the Raging Rhinos just keep on finding ways to win. The mark of a great team is finding ways to come out on top when things don't go your way and it's no fluke that the Rhinos have won 25 straight regular season games. Will Gant is explosive, averaging over 26 yards per reception with five touchdown grabs this year. Talk about making an impact! 7. Rocklin (3-2, 0-2 SFL) Two straight losses have the Thunder dropping out of the top five, but the good news for Rocklin is that it still faces the numbers 2, 3 and 4 teams in these rankings so there is plenty of room to reclaim its spot. Asher Runion has been a nightmare to block this season with eight tackles for loss and five sacks. Sometimes the most dangerous team is an angry one. 8. Roseville (4-1) Another team that just finds ways to win no matter what. The Tigers have been missing their starting quarterback, running back and top wide receiver for most of nonleague but somehow keep winning games. Kudos to head coach Adam Reinking for not allowing injuries to derail his season. Cole Takahashi has made the most of his time with the ball with 400 yards and five touchdowns so far. The FVL race will be tight. 9. Placer (3-2) The Hillmen are always one of those teams that just get better as the season goes on. Something just feels right about watching a team execute the wing-t to perfection as the weather turns, and that's what Placer expects to do as it chases an 11th league title in 13 years. Freshman Chase Rodarte has started to mix in at quarterback and has shown some flashes in his first two games. 10. Lincoln (4-1, 1-0 PVL) The Fighting Zebras are a costly 15-yard penalty and last second touchdown away from being 5-0 right now and after a dominant 33-0 victory over Wheatland, they look to be in the driver's seat of the PVL. Like last year though, that crown won't come easy and Lincoln needs to expect to be in some close games moving forward. The backfield duo of Brock Galer and Dylan Knell has been dubbed Sonic and Knuckles. Keep an eye on "Sonic" Knell, who is averaging 8.2 yards per carry.
