Bulldogs sweep Trojans in three games

In a battle of rival volleyball teams, Folsom High won all three games over Oak Ridge Monday night, 25-17, 25-22, 25-12. The win improved the Bulldogs record in the Sierra Foothill League to 6-1, while Oak Ridge's dropped to 5-2. Folsom dominated the first and third games. While Oak Ridge led most of the first half of the second game, Folsom came on strong to win the game, scoring the last three points to break a 22-22 tie. There wasn't much for Folsom High coach Devin Elmore to dislike. "I liked everything," Elmore said. "Our blocking was great tonight. Even if we didn't block it, we were getting touches. Our defense was great and kept us in system. We got some big swings from all of our hitters. It was a great, well-rounded night for us." Folsom's outside hitters were on fire. Jazmin Ojo led the way for the Bulldogs, as she had 15 kills, while Addison Smith added 11. When they weren't getting their kills, Avery Masters was, as she finished with eight kills from the middle. Khloe Wong and Ryan Kannegeisser each had two aces. Middles Masters and Hadassah Makama each had three blocks. Madelyn Snyder led the Trojans with 11 kills, while Kelsey Frank had four. "They had a really good match," Oak Ridge coach James Todd said. "They were very physical at the net and against teams like that you have to control your side of the court better. We made a couple of errors and if we would have controlled those points better it would have been more of a game. "We're right there. We're staying positive. We've got a good group of girls who are working hard. We play in a tough league. That's a great team over there. I have respect for each and every one of their players. They're one of the top teams in the area but at times we competed with them." The Trojans play at home Wednesday against Granite Bay and are looking forward to matches next week on the road at Whitney and Del Oro. Folsom plays at Davis and at Vista del Lago on Wednesday and Thursday before going on the road to St. Francis Monday before a big home match against Rocklin next Wednesday. "We've got to play a clean game against them (Rocklin)," Elmore said. "Last time we lost all three sets, 25-22. There are a lot of points we'd like to have back from those games. We've got them at home now. We need to get that student section back out there and get the energy going and feed off of that again."
