Roseville K-9 collars man after multiple car pursuits, foot chase

A suspected DUI driver in Roseville led authorities on three separate car pursuits and a foot chase before being apprehended by a Roseville Police K-9. The events unfolded shortly before 5 a.m. when Roseville police responded to reports of a possible driver under the influence near the 500 block of Riverside Avenue. Police said they conducted a traffic stop of a white BMW on suspicion of DUI; when an officer asked the driver for his ID, police said he took off in his car. This kicked off a pursuit by Roseville Police, but eventually they cancelled the chase due to high rates of speed and traffic encountered on Interstate 80. A few hours later, officers spotted the car again, this time in the area of 6th and E streets. Another car pursuit began but once again police called it off due to the suspect's "dangerous driving tactics," according to Roseville Police. Officers investigating the incidents determined the suspect was Sean Matthews, 39, of Roseville; they relayed this information to outside agencies to get help finding him. It wasn't long before Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies spotted Matthews' car, but when deputies attempted to pull him over, he led them on another pursuit. During that chase, the suspect allegedly hit an officer's car before he managed to get away. Later in the morning, Matthews' car was spotted again in Roseville near PFE and Walerga. Roseville Police initiated yet another pursuit At one point, Matthews ditched his car and ran away in the area of Santucci Blvd. and Vista Grande. This is when the chase finally ended, as a Roseville K-9 caught up with Matthews and apprehended him. Roseville Police said Matthews was taken into custody and booked into South Placer Jail for two counts of felony evasion, DUI and previous outstanding warrants. Additional charges may be added by the Sacramento Sheriff's Office.
