Castle Park demolition complete with brick sale

Demolition of the beloved playground at Kids Play "Castle" Park was finished last week, marking the first step toward $1.1 million Castle Park 2.0. The new design is being finalized, and the design reveal will be announced soon, the city of Folsom announced last week. With replacement parts no longer available, the city decided to replace the nearly 30-year-old wooden play structures while staying within the original 13,000 square-foot space. City officials said the castle will be replaced by "Trex," a composite that resembles wood with a 25-year life. Community support for the castle has been a key part of rebuilding Kids Play Park. Locals rallied to build the original castle the first time around in 1996, and the group effort was reborn this year. The City Council approved $800,000 toward the project out of the general fund. The remaining $300,000 is expected through fundraising by the nonprofit Folsom Kids Play – For Generations. As part of the fundraising campaign, castle fans can leave a lasting legacy by buying a personalized brick or fence slat to be included in the new park. Various familiar pieces of the old castle were saved to incorporate into the new version.
