Roseville developer fees fund trails at HP campus

Roseville officials set aside $318,000 in developer fees last month to fund a multi-use trail through the repurposed Hewlett Packard campus, now Roseville Innovation Park. The Roseville City Council on Aug. 6 transferred developer fees funds from the HP Campus Oaks account into the transportation fund to pay for planned trails through the complex. The budget adjustment is for trail design and construction, authorities said. The city plans a multi-use trail from the southern end of the existing Pleasant Grove Creek Trail, continuing east through the open space south of the Hewlett Packard former campus to connect to Foothills Boulevard. Future project funding will be provided by a combination of the transportation monies and the developer paid fees collected from development. There is no fiscal impact to the general fund, staff said. HP closed its Roseville manufacturing plant in 2003 and transferred about 475 jobs to Houston as a cost-cutting measure following the merger with Compaq, according to Press Tribune archives. The company's broader Roseville presence continued, however, until the 2015, split into two entities, HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Roseville Innovation Park is now occupied by a mix of tenants after the land was sold to the Strada Investment Group. HP Enterprise retained some space, while other buildings were leased to tenants like Gainwell Technologies and Penumbra, authorities said.
