Rocklin student suspended for kitchen knife injury at Spring View Middle

A Spring View Middle School student was suspended and booked for an injury to another student using a kitchen knife Monday morning. A message from the Rocklin Unified School District to families shared after the incident occurred the student then walked into the office with the knife in hand. "The school's Administration Team and the Rocklin Police Department's School Resource Officer, who was on campus, responded immediately to investigate the incident and took the student who caused the injury into custody," the document said. The document shared an investigation discovered the student intended to harm other students and a staff member. "Throughout the collaborative investigation with RUSD, Spring View Middle School, and the Rocklin Police Department, investigators discovered that the student had intended to harm additional students and a staff member," the email said. "This evening, Rocklin Unified and the Rocklin Police Department contacted the families of those students and the staff member." The school plans to address the student's actions with discipline through expulsion while the Rocklin Police Department will proceed with filing charges against the student. "While the school district will address the student's actions with the strongest disciplinary actions, including expulsion, outlined in the student handbook and the California Education Code for Student Discipline, the Rocklin Police Department will proceed with filing charges against the juvenile." The document did not name the student or comment further due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The document also stated the injured student received medical attention in the school's front office. The school district said the event was troubling and alarming. "We are grateful to many of the students for reporting the incident right away to staff members," the email said.
