Football rankings: Woodcreek, Twelve Bridges remain unbeaten

As the calendar flips to mid-October, the playoff picture is starting to take shape across the region but several league titles remain up for grabs. Woodcreek, Foresthill and Twelve Bridges are the three remaining unbeaten teams entering the home stretch of the regular season. Here is this week's Gold Mountain CA News top 10: 1. Folsom (5-1, 2-0 SFL) The Bulldogs extended their winning streak to 24 over Oak Ridge with Friday's 28-9 victory, despite trailing at the half. Folsom looks to be on its way to another Sierra Foothill League crown, but still has a few more hurdles to clear. 2. Oak Ridge (4-2, 2-1 SFL) The Trojans are right there. Oak Ridge led Folsom 9-7 at the half but it was unable to hang on and pull the upset. The Trojans have proven battle-tested through one of the section's toughest schedules, which will pay off down the stretch. 3. Granite Bay (5-2, 2-1 SFL) The defense looked stout in Friday's win over Del Oro, hanging on and forcing stops when the Grizzlies needed them most. Granite Bay is looking like a lock for a top-four seed this postseason. 4. Woodcreek (6-0, 3-0 CVC) The Timberwolves blew Christian Brothers out of the water Friday night and are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the Gold Mountain California News coverage area. Woodcreek needs to take care of business this week to set up a showdown against Inderkum next Friday that could determine the league title. 5. Del Oro (4-2, 1-2 SFL) The Golden Eagles are a combined five points away from being 6-0. While that is something to celebrate after last year's 2-8 campaign, both losses were winnable games if some mistakes were limited. If Del Oro can do that, it has a chance at winning a section title. 6. Twelve Bridges (6-0, 1-0 FVL) The Raging Rhinos trailed Nevada Union 17-13 at the end of the first quarter, then scored 43 straight points in a 56-17 rout on the road. Twelve Bridges had more than 600 yards of offense and has won 26 straight regular-season games. 7. Rocklin (4-2, 1-2 SFL) The Thunder exercised their early league demons Friday night, storming out to a 40-0 lead over Whitney to win their 10th consecutive Quarry Bowl 53-20. If Rocklin keeps this up, it will prove it is still a force to be reckoned with in Division II. Don't count out the Thunder just yet. 8. Roseville (5-1, 1-0 FVL) It isn't always pretty, but the banged-up Tigers keep finding ways to win and that is keeping them strongly in the No. 8 spot. Roseville slugged out an 8-0 victory over Yuba City last week, but the offense will need to put up points against high-scoring Twelve Bridges and Placer teams if it wants a shot at the FVL crown. 9. Placer (4-2, 1-0 FVL) The Hillmen won comfortably against Del Campo last Friday night, celebrating homecoming with a 42-26 victory. The Cougars scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns against some reserves, but Placer was in control from start to finish. A showdown with Twelve Bridges looms. 10. Lincoln (5-1, 2-0 PVL) Kody Lowe stuffed a 2-point conversion on the goal line last Friday night to give the Fighting Zebras a 28-27 triumph over Bear River on homecoming.
