Dorothy Emmie Ellsworth (Sedgley) 6/13/1929 - 8/01/2025

Dorothy Emmie Ellsworth (Sedgley), born June 13, 1929 in Auburn, California to Fred and Marguerite (Borba) Sedgley. On August 1, 2025 at the age of 96, in Auburn, California, Dorothy died in the arms of her granddaughter Rachael Knight-Reigns in her bed at home surrounded by her grandson-in-law, Ryan Knight-Reigns, great-grandson Trevor Knight-Reigns, a close family friend, Katrina Eaker and her favorite cat never leaving her side. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Bill Haffey and Russel Ellsworth, as well as her sons, Eric, John Calvin (Cal), Brandon, her brothers John, Jim, Fred Jr, sister Ruth and beloved niece, Carol Anne (Shifton) Taylor. She is survived by a daughter, Dorian Horsfall. Dorothy graduated from Placer High School in 1947 and went on to work at Pacific Bell, Country Boy Inn and for over 20 years at Placer Savings where she met and made lifelong friends. After retirement boredom got to her, she returned to the workforce part-time at Hertz Rentals spreading her joy once again. Though Dorothy was very outgoing, she was at heart, a homebody that loved to play in the dirt of her gardens, tending to the numerous plants and flowers she loved. She enjoyed crocheting and made innumerable prayer shawls for the members of her church, Pioneer United Methodist Church in Auburn. Though she came late to religion, she enjoyed the comradery of fellowship and the comfort brought to her by her faith that God was watching over her and waiting to receive her in heaven when her time came. She loved her animals, especially her dog Sissy who passed many years ago and most recently her dog Kylee, that preceded her in death by only a few months. Dorothy was a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoying going out and spending time with the other local members. She was a wonderful cook and immensely enjoyed the company of family and friends over a home cooked meal, usually out on her back patio. Dorothy was an avid reader, going through books at a very fast pace. She especially loved period piece romance novels but admitted to skipping over the intimate scenes and reading the ending before finishing a book. She had an easy temperament and was quick to laugh. Per her wishes, no services will be held for her. If anyone wishes to honor her memory they can do so by making a donation to her church, donating to your local animal shelter or planting something in her memory. Dorothy was beloved by practically everyone she interacted with. She was a shameless flirt and will be dearly missed.
