Auburn man arrested for residential burglary, golf cart theft from former client

An Auburn man was arrested Monday in connection with a residential burglary and golf cart theft in Lake of the Pines. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office reported the victim filed an online theft report on Oct. 3 after discovering the golf cart was missing from the garage. Investigative leads led a Sheriff's deputy to the discovery of an online sales ad for the suspected-stolen golf cart. The Sheriff's Office confirmed the investigation revealed the golf cart had been sold by George Samuel Gault, 27, of Auburn, who was determined to be the former landscaper for the victim. The buyer, who resided in Merced County, was located and contacted. The Sheriff's Office reported the buyer cooperated with the investigation and aided in the recovery of the stolen golf cart with assistance from the Atwater Police Department. Gault was booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility for burglary, grand theft of a vehicle and theft from an elderly or dependent adult. According to the online jail report for Nevada County, Gault was also released from custody on Monday.
