Prep football picks: Granite Bay, Folsom meet for SFL crown; Twelve Bridges seeking 10-0

The final week of the regular season is here, and there's plenty on the line across the area. League titles, playoff seeding and bragging rights are all up for grabs before the postseason kicks off next week. Some teams are fighting for survival, others are polishing up for a title run and a few are looking to spoil their rival's season. Here's how our three reporters see this week's slate playing out, starting with Thursday night's rivalry matchups and rolling into a loaded Friday schedule. Thursday's games: West Park (5-4) at Woodcreek (8-1) Jordan: West Park is likely outside of the playoffs and will be playing in a bowl game and that means that the Panthers would love nothing more than to spoil their rival's chances of getting a top seed. Woodcreek has only had one hiccup, and it was in a game that could have gone either way. I think the Timberwolves will be tested but come out on top. Woodcreek 31, West Park 27. Matt: I missed three games last week, and the team I picked each lost by one point. It's been that kind of year for me. Woodcreek is 8-1 and West Park is 5-4. I'm going Woodcreek. Woodcreek 28, West Park 17. Bill: West Park is a good test for Woodcreek before the postseason. The Timberwolves better hope it's not too much of a test. Woodcreek 34, West Park 28. Placer (6-3, 3-1 FVL) at Roseville (7-2, 3-1) Jordan: This one is for second in the FVL and could be the deciding factor in getting a home playoff game. Roseville is trending up after finally getting healthy, while Placer has hung on in recent games. I think the Hillmen will be able to make some big plays, but the Tigers are too strong on defense. Roseville 34, Placer 27. Matt: Come on you two, you were supposed to pick Placer in this one; Roseville is my team. Roseville won last year and, when healthy, has a better team this year. Placer is not as good as they were last year. Roseville 32, Placer 20. Bill: Another good test for both of these playoff-bound teams. It's tough, though: Win, but try not to get hurt. Roseville 38, Placer 28. Wheatland (7-2, 4-1 PVL) at Oakmont (4-5, 3-2) Jordan: Oakmont likely secured its playoff berth with last week's win over Marysville, but now faces a chance for payback against the same Wheatland team that beat the Vikings for the PVL title a year ago. The home field gives Oakmont an edge, but the Pirates are fighting to lock up their own postseason spot in Division VI and that will be the difference. Wheatland 28, Oakmont 21. Matt: Oakmont has had a rollercoaster season and is coming off a high last week following a win over Marysville. Like any good coaster, they're leaving a high and heading for a low. Wheatland 31, Oakmont 21. Bill: Oakmont's narrow win over Marysville cost me a game in the standings, so I'm still trailing Jordan by three games. And there's no gaining here (or losing). Wheatland 34, Oakmont 20. San Juan (2-6, 1-3 SMAL) at Foresthill (7-1, 2-1) Jordan: Foresthill needs to get out of this one healthy and without stumbling because the Wildfires have a real shot at playing for the section championship on Thanksgiving weekend. Foresthill 41, San Juan 13. Matt: Foresthill will win this game. The score? Foresthill 52, San Juan 6. Bill: All Valley Christian here. Foresthill 49, San Juan 20. Lincoln (8-1, 5-0 PVL) at Marysville (4-5, 2-3) Jordan: Lincoln has already won a share of the league title but can take the PVL outright with a win here. The last two times I went against the Zebras, they have won decisively, so I have learned my lesson. If Lincoln wants to use this as motivation, however, just reverse the scores. Lincoln 31, Marysville 14. Matt: Lincoln is the undisputed PVL champ, baby! Lincoln 55, Marysville 21. Bill: Zebras earn their PVL title stripes. Lincoln 42, Marysville 21. Friday's games: Rocklin (5-4, 1-4 SFL) at Oak Ridge (6-3, 3-2) Jordan: The thought of Rocklin finishing 1-5 in SFL play sounded crazy just a month ago, but it is a possibility after the Thunder were stunned by Del Oro last week. Rocklin really doesn't want to end the regular season with three straight losses, but Oak Ridge is looking to make its case for the two seed in Division I. When in doubt, pick the home side. Oak Ridge 21, Rocklin 20. Matt: This just isn't Rocklin's year. Oak Ridge 24, Rocklin 20. Bill: Oak Ridge has much to play for in the postseason, and Rocklin can't stop it. Oak Ridge 31, Rocklin 21. Granite Bay (7-2, 4-1 SFL) at Folsom (8-1, 5-0) Jordan: This one is very interesting because Granite Bay can control the clock with its ground game and the Grizzlies have one of the best defenses that I have seen all year. Granite Bay will need to play a perfect game to win this one and take the SFL title, but it is not out of reach. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, I think Folsom finds a way. Folsom 27, Granite Bay 21. Matt: I'd actually consider Granite Bay to beat Folsom had another SFL team come closer to the Bulldogs. Ironically, Rocklin (1-4 in league) came the closest at 13 points. The Grizzlies are capable, but I feel like the Bulldogs are picking up a little bit of steam. Folsom 39, Granite Bay 28. Bill: Ho-hum, another easy SFL title for Folsom. Imagine the 20- and 30-year class reunions when the talk turns to sports. Football? Shrug, the Bulldogs won everything so easily. Folsom 35, Granite Bay 24. Mira Loma (8-0, 3-0 SMAL) at Valley Christian (6-2, 2-1) Jordan: Valley Christian can shake up the league and force a three-way tie for first place with Mira Loma and Foresthill with the win. I love chaos late in the season, but I think the Matadors take it. Mira Loma 38, Valley Christian 27. Matt: As much as I'd like to predict a Valley Christian upset victory, I think I'll go for the favorite and pick the Lions when they play them in the playoffs. Mira Loma 44, Valley Christian 30. Bill: I almost - there's that word, almost - picked Mira Loma against Foresthill. Not making that mistake here. Mira Loma 28, VCA 21. Del Campo (2-7, 0-4 FVL) at Twelve Bridges (9-0, 4-0) Jordan: Twelve Bridges makes it 30 regular-season wins in a row here as the Rhinos stampede into the postseason. Twelve Bridges 42, Del Campo 17. Matt: 12B is going to keep the regular-season unbeaten streak alive and finish 10-0. What is it now, 30 straight games or something crazy like that? 12B 45, Del Campo 8. Bill: Rhinos are a thorn - or is it a horn in this case? - in everyone's side right now. 12B 49, Del Campo 18. Bear River (5-4, 2-3 PVL) at Center (3-6, 0-5) Jordan: Bear River has had a bye week to get healthy and get right after being upset by Colfax in the River Bowl. I like what the Bruins have under first-year coach Jeremy Kerr and I think they end the regular season on a high note. Bear River 37, Center 17. Matt: Bear River will win if Center shows up to play its own home game. Bear River 20, Center 6. Bill: No different picks between Jordan and I, and Jordan confirmed this week we're taking the weekly contest through the end of the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. I'm just putting this out there in case Jordan tries to pen an "I AM THE CHAMP" column next week. ... The Bruins claw through the Cougars in a playoff prep. Bear River 35, Center 12.
