Suspects arrested for copper wire theft in Roseville

Three people were arrested for allegedly stealing copper wire in a new development of West Roseville, according to Placer County Sheriff's officials. The alleged thefts happened in the area near Bluebell Lane and Royal Lily Avenue on Sunday, Nov. 30. According to Sheriff's officials, witnesses called them reporting suspicious activity in the area after hearing the sound of power tools. Witnesses also noticed a white BMW parked near the location where the suspects appeared to be cutting wire. Placer County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area and found a vehicle matching the description on Baseline Road, three miles from the area where the theft occurred. Deputies made a traffic stop of the vehicle, and the three occupants were identified. During a search of the vehicle, deputies allegedly discovered brass valves, copper pipes, copper wire and power tools believed to be used in the theft. All three suspects were arrested and booked into the South Placer Jail on theft-related charges. Arrested were Carissa Avila, 36, Martin Barron Acosta, 44, and Rigoberto Velasquez, 32. Sheriff's officials credit the quick reporting from the community and the attentive work of their deputies for the suspects being caught quickly.
