Bob Riggle fondly remembered

Bob Riggle left an impression on those who knew him from his years at Lincoln High School.Riggle, 67, was one of four Americans killed by Somali pirates on Feb. 23, after the pirates captured the yacht they had been sailing in the Indian Ocean on Feb. 18.Riggle was a retired veterinarian who lived in Seattle, according to former classmate Gayle Moore.A 1961 graduate of Lincoln High School, Riggle was remembered as being quiet and smart by former classmates and his art teacher, Arlan Welch.Welch, a Roseville resident, said Riggle was a member of the art class and club, and lived in the country."First of all, he was a handsome young dude, without being pretentious, and had a quiet demeanor," Welch said. "We used to call these guys 'aggies' because they lived out in the country. I remember him and his sister, Laurie, very well."Riggle was good at both drawing and painting, Welch said, and "was easy to teach.""He was a good student, and the fact that he went on to be a veterinarian should emphasize that. That's a lot of work," Welch said. Welch said that Riggle attended University of California at Davis. Pat McCartney was a few grades below Riggle and they were in Future Farmers of America together, where Riggle was an officer.McCartney described him as "a smart boy," who was "very interested in agriculture.""I looked up to him as an upper-classman," McCartney said. "He was just a nice guy and he was always nice to the younger classman."
