Film studio focuses its business in region

For one local business, their motto might well be, "lights, camera, action."Red Barn Films is a full-service film and television production company, located in the Silverado building in Folsom.Starting only a year and a half ago, the company is already working on multiple projects, including three advertising projects, five television pilots and two feature films."We offer state of the art Hollywood quality products and high-end quality," said Kevin Beck, director of Red Barn Films.Beck, of Shingle Springs, has spent 20 years in Hollywood producing and writing for companies including FOX, UPN, TNN, Spike-TV, TV Land, The LA Lakers, FOX Cable Sports, FOX Sports NET and the Department of Homeland Security.Jaime Tafoya, of Cool, is the producer of Red Barn Films. He has more than 25 years of film media experience and has worked on many independent features and documentaries. He worked with the Emmy-winning producer of Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch for three years and in 2008 he created the TV Show "Experience El Dorado."The two men met while working on "Experience El Dorado.""We clicked and worked on six episodes," Beck said. "When we got taken off air, we wanted to start this business because we wanted to work together more."Soon after starting the company, they were hired on by Torrey Loomis, president and CEO of Silverado, to work on a television series about the Grace Foundation in El Dorado Hills called, "Saved by Grace.""Silverado is our main hub and they hired us to produce 'Saved by Grace' as well as other projects too," Beck said. "When Silverado gets creative requests from vendors who rent their gear or need more gear they call Red Barn Films."Loomis is the executive producer of "Saved by Grace."The project is currently moving forward in the production process in Hollywood."This is an actual television and film studio here in Folsom," Loomis said. "People don't know we are here. We have the ability to both shoot and edit right here in Folsom. You don't need to bring in a film crew from LA, we can do this all right here locally."Silverado is a rental support facility and retailer for Apple products. Red Barn Films, LLC is an Ad Agency/Production Company that rents space at Silverado."These guys (Beck and Tafoya) are great," Loomis said. "They are professional and have a good eye. Being able to keep these strengths in the community shows people that we have a strong, vibrant production company to do the work well."Red Barn Films uses equipment including 16/35mm film- HD, Arri, Panavision, Sony, Panasonic and RED."We really want to reach out to Folsom businesses for on air advertising," Beck said. "We want to help businesses get the word out … and reach out to the community to help them."Recently, they worked locally with FLB Sports Bar and Casino in Folsom to shoot the Luckiest Man in the World commercial campaign."This turned out to be a home run," Beck said. "This was a great product produced by love. It was an introduction to Folsom for us and Comcast Cable."Dan Dreher, co-owner of FLB Sports Bar and Casino, said it was a good experience working with the production company."By far, this was the best I've ever worked with," Dreher said. "They shot with the best high resolution cameras. ... It makes the footage so much crisper and cleaner, and the editing process was so detailed. They made the shoot look professional."He said the commercial has already aired on Comcast Cable for one month."We have received a lot of positive response back," Dreher said. "A lot of people who have never been here before are coming in because of the commercial just to check us out."He said they are already planning to work more with Red Barn Films in the future for the Luckiest Man in the World campaign."I've already talked to a couple other business owners in town and sold Red Barn Films onto them," Dreher said.After years of Hollywood and LA experience, Beck and Tafoya said they are happy to be home again working in Folsom."I love working in Folsom," Tafoya said.
