City View: Saturdays are back at Maidu Library

The City of Roseville is excited to restore Saturday hours at the Maidu Library and is celebrating with a day of free, fun-filled activities for the whole family noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. In 2010, the Maidu Library's hours were reduced for budgetary concerns. With support from local community leaders, including the Friends of the Roseville Library and residents of the area, the City Council agreed to increase the Library's operating budget for 2011. The Maidu Branch will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays beginning Aug. 6.The fun this Saturday starts at noon. Children's crafts and story times will be available throughout the day. At 12:30 p.m., Mayor Pauline Roccucci and other local leaders will welcome the public back to the library on Saturdays. Rose Cooper, author of "Gossip From the Girls' Room: A Blogtastic! Novel," will speak at 1 p.m. followed by S.G. Browne, author of "Breathers: A Zombie's Lament and Fated." Books by both of these authors will be available for purchase. In addition, the Friends of the Roseville Library are providing light refreshments. As the new City Librarian, I welcome input from our customers as we grow and expand library services. We will be focusing on community outreach and increased library programming. With an increase in our materials budget, we will be able to purchase more high-demand items for the library customers. I hope the library will continue to play a central role in lifelong learning and fun for you and your family.
