Editor's View: Folsom robotics team hits TV

This just in — a Folsom robotics team will be seen on "i.am. FIRST — Science is Rock and Roll," airing at 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 14, on ABC. The team competed in the FIRST championship 2011 and it included 30,000 students, fans, families, educators and industry leaders in St. Louis, Mo. More than 600 teams competed. Folsom's team, Phoenxtrix, received help from the will.i.am.(of the Black Eyed Peas). The competition isn't all about robotics, though. The big bash includes live performances by The Black Eyed Peas and Willow Smith, along with celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Steven Tyler, Bono, Jack Black, Miley Cyrus and Josh Duhamel all speaking out in favor of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education.Sad newsFriends and relatives of Jody Hornor will gather for a celebration of life from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Folsom History Museum, 823 Sutter St., Folsom. She passed away in July.According to her family, Jody "began having symptoms of memory loss, difficulty with numbers and other cognitive issues" in September 2010.
