Waste Connections official is community minded

Jeff England is in charge of Operations and Customer Service for El Dorado Disposal/Waste Connections. He's also the president of the Rotary Club of El Dorado Hills and works closely with community outreach programs. In the past, he worked in logistics and operations in the grocery and dairy industries. He was the transportation manager for Crystal Dairy in Sacramento for 11 years. What are some of the most interesting things that have happened to you?I had a UFO encounter in Oregon. A brightly colored, rounded object that hovered silently, rotating colors could be seen reflected on the underside of low hanging rain clouds. I was out on a run at night by myself looking at this thing and it started drifting toward me. I got this spooky feeling we were looking at each other, I started jogging again and the object suddenly took off to the east, incredibly fast, making no noise at all. The next day an article in the paper reported numerous calls about strange stuff in the sky the night before. More recently, I gave a speech dressed up as a flying monkey at the Hands 4 Hope costume ball, which was fun and got some interesting reactions.What is your favorite music?My favorite music is the Rolling Stones playing Chuck Berry. They swing and rock it like nobody else. What is your favorite movie?"Casablanca" for its great comic dialogue and epic drama. Ingrid Bergman puts the weight on Bogart and he carries it.Do you give back to the community?Waste Connections embraces servant leadership as an organizational model and through that, I have the privilege of serving as president of the El Dorado Hills Rotary Club. We team work with numerous local service groups like Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Hands 4 Hope, Interact Club at Oak Ridge High School, Run for Courage, just to name a few. The Rotary Club has breakfast meetings at the El Dorado Hills Community Services District. Come and join us. I also serve in a homeless outreach through Bayside Church. Do you have any hobbies?If I had time for hobbies I'd coach kids' sports again. Athletics are a great opportunity to help kids with their self-esteem, teach them team work and sportsmanship. I coached soccer, flag football, tackle football and basketball. Tell us about your family.My amazing wife Liz and I have been married 22 years. She's my best friend and daily inspiration, along with our kids Josh and Xander, 18 and 16. Our dog Max is pretty inspiring, too.What are you most proud of?If my wife and kids think I'm doing OK as a husband and dad, then that is what I am most proud of.What causes are you passionate about?I would like for folks who are quick to judge the homeless to spend some time with them. A great many have mental health issues and are not being helped, and I've learned every one of them has a story, usually heartbreaking and far from my reality. I've just learned I'm in no position to pass judgment on anyone in that situation.What is one thing about you people might be surprised to learn?I wrote a fiction book, a scary — I hope — action-adventure I will self-publish or have published in a few months.
