E.V. Cain team seeded No. 1 in FISAL tourney

The E.V. Cain Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team is undefeated and holds the number one seed going into today's tournament of champions, to be held at Stacy Dragila Gym.The seventh-graders have an opportunity to win a FISAL (Foothills Intermediate Schools Athletic League) championship for the first time in boy's basketball since the Wildcats began competing.This has been a special year for the players because most of the team has been playing together in an AAU league for the past year. The Jr. Hillmen AAU team was started last year and has really helped the team improve in the offseason, according to assistant coach Glen Ikeda. Ikeda said the Wildcats do not have one star player, but they rely on good ball handling from their guards, solid rebounding from their big men and a sharp, crisp passing game from the entire team. The success that the Wildcats are having can be seen around the school. Ikeda said there are more fans coming to games then ever before and parents are more than willing to help out before, during and after the games. The one-day FISAL Tournament of Champions starts at 4 p.m. today. E.V. Cain will play No. 4 Creekview. Then at 5:15, No. 2 Olympus will play No. 3 Cavitt.
