50 YEARS AGO(July 8, 1955 Issue)A Stallman family reunion and picnic was held on the 4th of July at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moffitt and Mr. and Mrs. Art Stallman. Those present at the A.O. Stallman home were Mr. and Mrs. Ken Davidson and Diane, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ullyot, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Issacson, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Radoni, all of Roseville, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rayfield, Shelley and Bobbey, Mrs. Nancy Knoblett of Sacramento, Mrs. Belle Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stallman, Jackie and Terry, Mary Lou Stallman, Richard Stallman, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Stallman of Loomis. Guests at the Moffitt home were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Larsen, Mr. and Mrs. Linn Nelthorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nelthorpe, Rhonda, David and Diane, Mrs. Mattie Nelthorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rowe and Doug, Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Stallman, Mr. Gus Stallman, Mrs. Marsh Haines, Jim and Dick of Concord, Mr. and Mrs. Al Festerson, Kay and Joe of Willows, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Jones, Trenna and Elsie, Lee Elam of Roseville, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bishop and Jeanine, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moffitt, Gladys and Evie. In the evening the two groups met at Gus Stallmans pond for fireworks.Funeral services were held on July 3 for Yaichi Fujita of Loomis, 72, who died on June 29th. He was a native of Japan and a resident here for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Kotomi of Loomis; two sons, Frank of Loomis and George of San Francisco; and two daughters, Amy of Sacramento and Rose of Chicago. Services were held at the Methodist Church here with Lamberts Funeral Home of Roseville in charge.25 YEARS AGO(July 10, 1980 Issue)Plans for the Second Annual Del Oro Golden Eagle Marching Band Spectacular on October 18 were in the final stages of being completed. The Del Oro High School Band planned to host 20 of the finest marching bands in all of Northern California.It has been an exciting week for several Loomis young ladies. Jacque Rowe, daughter of Jim and Phyllis Rowe of Hidden Valley, was named Miss Placer County at the fair. She succeeded another local girl, Martha Rugen who went on to win other competitions.Steven Charles King, son of Charles G. King of King Road, Loomis, was named to the Dean's List for the spring quarter at the University of California, Santa Barbara. A senior who previously attended the University of Rochester, he was majoring in pharmacology.10 YEARS AGO(July 10, 1995 Issue)Jerry and Howard Mehl prepared corn at the summer mixer for the Loomis Chamber of Commerce. The serving crew from U.S. Bank included Ted Nishimoto, Patty Ford, Michele Williams, Stacy Rice, and Kristine Sharp. The barbecue crew from DKM Heating and Air Conditioning included the Payne brothers: Mark, Eric, and Don. Joan and Gordon Takemoto were surprised by a cake in honor of their 25th Wedding Anni-versary. Paul Yokote was on hand to take pictures of the event. Six local residents were contestants for Miss Placer County 1995. They were Stacey Meyer and MaDonna Don of Loomis, Holly Bowling of Penryn, and Jeni Newson, Patience Watkins, and Michelle Santucci of Newcastle.Alan Kidwell was installed as President of the Loomis Lions Club for 1995-96. Speedway motorcyclist Travis MacDonald, 15, the son of Terry and Cindy MacDonald of Loomis, was the Northern California Junior Champion. Motorcycles are raced with no brakes on a flat, oval track. Members of the Loomis LIFE Center were saddened by the loss of Jay Porter, the wonderful old fire fighter they all loved. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Sean Josephson, a 1988 Del Oro graduate, was serving his country aboard the guided missile frigate USS Klarking.Francis Scherer of Loomis was named to the board of directors for the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency of California. Gerald White of Post 775 American Legion was installed as Aumoier for the Placer Voiture 858 La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux. Rory O'Farrell was the general chairman for September's Loomis Eggplant Festival. The proposed Raley's Town Center was being planned and would include a 75,830 sq. ft. shopping area anchored by a super market and two fast food restaurants. Sheriff's Deputies Corie Quillinan and Don Hutchison arrested two young men from Del Paso Heights for harassing local youths and injuring a local businessman who came to their aid.
