50 YEARS AGO(Nov. 4, 1955 Issue)Master Sgt. Albert Pilliard of Lewiston, Idaho was visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Pilliard. He left for Fort Ord, in California where he will be stationed.Mr. and Mrs Ted Kitada and four children arrived here on the Cleveland, from Japan, on October 27th and will make their home at Loomis. Ted is a nephew of Ben Takahashi and is now employed in the Loomis Mutual Supply. He was born in the United States and received part of his education here, and has spent 15 years in Japan.The Firemen were holding their annual dance Saturday night in the Memorial Hall, with Rollie Barton supplying the music. Some mighty fine prizes (about 30 of them) were being offered during the evening and were on display at Law Brothers Store. The usual large crowd was expected as this was one of the major events of the year. 25 YEARS AGO(Nov. 6, 1980 Issue)Dixie Cheney of Loomis, Junior Miss California, was to end her reign when her successor was to be chosen during a California Youth Pageant in the Woodlake Inn in Sacramento. The Del Oro High School senior was crowned last year in ceremonies at the Red Lion Inn in Sacramento, competing against 37 contestants from throughout the state. Judging included beauty, poise, swimming suit and personality points. Following graduation from Del Oro in June she planned to attend college majoring in communications. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Cheney of Loomis.Navy Seaman Recruit Roger R. McCracken, son of Robert E. and Magdalena McCracken of Loomis, completed recruit training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego. During the eight-week training cycle, he studied general military subjects designed to prepare him for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy's 85 basic occupational fields. A 1980 graduate of Del Oro High School, he joined the Navy in July, 1980. 10 YEARS AGO(Nov. 6, 1995 Issue)The Del Oro football team walloped Rocklin 52-6 with scores by Brandon Bettencourt, Christian Atkinson, Joey Graham, and Eric Waygandt. The Eagles JV team also won 24-7 with TDs by Andrew Bonner, Daniel Stricklin, and Jerimiah Holmes. QB Shane Steinback kept Rocklin off balance with a mix of passes and runs.Del Oro's Homecoming Royalty were freshmen April Villars and Mark Bates, sophomores Kamryn Wilson and Erik Hansen, juniors Robannie Evans and Bryan Powell, seniors Beth Nelson, Courtney Sage, Taylor Williams, Joe Graham, Taylor Newton, and Chris Ahlering.Frank Dowd and Marie Thomas, long time volunteers, prepared for the Annual Pancake Breakfast at Mt. St. Joseph Noviate in Loomis.Billie Crowley of Billie's Great Buns Restaurant and Roy Hebard, Jr. of Hebard Insurance and Real Estate hosted the Chamber Mixer.Heading up the 20 year reunion for the Del Oro Class of 1975 were Mark Jabusch, Kim Cairney Spear, Laura DuPriest, Maureen Otani Brown, Myra Yamashiro Okasaki, Patty Batts Davis, Bill Imamoto, Stu Kageta, and Roy Hirota.
