Wallace brings depth to The Press-Tribune

Bill Wallace traded one hot market for another in moving to Roseville.Wallace, the new general manager at the Roseville and Granite Bay Press-Tribune newspapers, comes to the area from Bullhead City, Ariz. Besides sitting high on the banks of the Colorado River and within sight of Laughlin, Nev., Bullhead City averages triple-digit high temperatures throughout the summer months.And like Roseville, it's a sizzling market economically. Nevada gaming, thriving retail and an influx of families and residential housing have been good for News West Publishing Co., Wallace said. As general manager for News West, Wallace oversaw business operations for the Mohave Valley Daily News, two weekly newspapers, three shoppers and several weekly publications focused on entertainment, casinos, real estate and business. News West and Gold Country Media, which operates The Press-Tribune and 14 other newspapers and publications in Placer and Sacramento counties, are part of Brehm Communications, Inc. of San Diego. Wallace's selection was announced by Bill Brehm Jr., BCI president.Wallace will focus on advertising and overall business operations at The Press-Tribune. Advertising Director Jeff Weigand will move into a strategic consulting position, assisting Gold Country Media advertising executives and their customers."These moves really add strength to our team here in Roseville and throughout our group," said Tony Hazarian, publisher for Placer Community Newspapers, Inc."Bill's extensive experience will help us work harder - and better - for our advertising customers, while Jeff's background in training and technology should drive business for all of our publications," Hazarian added.Wallace is thrilled to join the Press-Tribune team as well."It's a wonderful opportunity. Anything and everything in the world is right here."Prior to his joining BCI in Bullhead City, Wallace was advertising and production director for the Lake Charles American Press, a daily newspaper in Lake Charles, La. He also had an extensive career with Thomson Newspaper Corp. newspapers in Valdosta and Thomasville, Ga.; Marathon, Fla.; Marianna, Fla.; and Dalton, Ga.Wallace, who speaks with a soft Southern drawl, just might have ink in his veins. Prior to his newspaper career, he was general manager of the Wallace Printing Co., a commercial print business in Chattanooga, Tenn."Growing up in a family-owned business, my father instilled in me a lot of good work ethics," said Wallace, adding that his career with ink and paper started "before I learned to drive.""The longer I stayed with it, the more it became my life. He will be a great addition to The Press-Tribune team and the community," Taylor said.Wallace, 53, and his wife Karen, a radiology/mammography technologist, plan to reside in the Roseville area. Their daughter, son-in-law and 19-month old granddaughter live in Houston.With interests in golf and travel, Wallace is looking forward to exploring the Gold Country region and getting involved in the local community. Past associations include Rotary, Kiwanis, chambers of commerce and higher education board positions.
