Rocklin, Whitney to battle Friday in soccer

Rocklin High's varsity boys soccer team has opened the season 7-1-1.The Thunder, who play at Ponderosa today, will host Folsom at 7 p.m. Thursday. Rocklin will also play at Whitney at 7 p.m. Friday before opening Sierra Foothill League play at 7 p.m. against visiting Woodcreek next Tuesday.The Thunder beat visiting Oak Ridge 3-1 on Sept. 3 and then played Christian Brothers to a 1-1 tie on the road Friday.Zach Kammerer scored for the Thunder against Christian Brothers while Cameron Powell had two goals and Seth Casiple scored once against Oak Ridge. Casiple also had two assists against Oak Ridge while teammate Justin Beeson had one.WhitneyThe Wildcats, 1-1-1, will host Rocklin on Friday before opening Pioneer Valley League play at Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. next Wednesday. Whitney, which plays at Foothill today, beat visiting Antelope 1-0 and tied visiting Granite Bay 1-1 last week. William King scored for the Wildcats against Granite Bay while Alex Donofrio had a goal against Antelope. Michael Swift had the assist against Antelope.
