DMV office in Rocklin will close

Customers at the Rocklin branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles will be sent to longer lines later this month.On Dec. 17, the Rocklin branch of the DMV, which services a city of 50,000 people, is closing its doors at 4240 Rocklin Road, Suite 12 and redirecting its customers to the Roseville and Auburn branches.According to DMV information officer Armando Botello, the lease for the office space is up, and won't be renewed by the state organization. "We are actively looking for a new office space and we are making every effort to find a suitable location," Botello said. "We hope it can happen as soon as possible."The 12 employees working at the Rocklin branch will not lose their jobs. According to Botello, they will be transferred to positions at the Roseville and Auburn offices.City Council member George Magnuson used to run his business, Magnuson and Associates, out of the same office complex where the DMV is located. He said that the DMV moving could be a boon to the other businesses in the complex."The DMV takes up a lot of parking spaces," he said. "Half of the spaces in the complex are reserved for DMV. A lot of businesses that move in just end up moving out because their clients have a hard time parking."Customers of the Rocklin DMV are disappointed that the Rocklin site is being closed down. "This location is closing?" asked Brittney Roseberry, an El Dorado Hills resident. "I come to this DMV all the time. And it's actually more out of the way for me. I live closer to Folsom and I work right by the Roseville DMV. But this location is the best because it has shorter lines. I would say this is the best DMV branch I've been to."Rocklin resident Jeremy Scaiff, 32, was also upset to hear that he would be redirected to another location for his DMV needs."I always tell my friends from other cities to come up here, because the lines are so short," Scaiff said.
