Save Clover Valley; Rocklin's largest open space

Frank Geramia's letter, in the Dec. 13 issue of the Placer Herald, announcing the formation of Friends of Rocklin Open Space, was very encouraging. I hope it means that more Rocklin citizens are willing to stand up to development of every square foot of "empty" land in this town.What will draw people to this community in the future when it is packed with look-alike housing, strip mall after strip mall and intense traffic congestion? Why do people want to live in Granite Bay and other upscale communities? What makes their property values so high?What makes them upscale? They have open space!Why would any sensible government approve the destruction of a golf course with rolling lawns and lovely trees to replace it with dense housing? If Friends of Rocklin Open Space can help the city tighten up codes to protect open space with a ballot initiative, taking it to the people, I'm in favor.As someone who has been advocating saving Rocklin's largest open space, Clover Valley, I think, at some point in the near future, it would be important for all of us working toward these goals to form some type of coalition to make this happen.Janet DunlapRocklin
