Kings' Artest arrested at Loomis home

Sacramento Kings star Ron Artest reportedly slapped and grabbed a 29-year-old victim of domestic violence prior to her calling 911 for help.Artest was arrested Monday following an alleged domestic violence disturbance at his Loomis Home.According go the Placer County Sheriff's Department's arrest report, released Tuesday, Artest "struck" his victim that "sustained visible trauma after being repeatedly grabbed by Artest and pushed to the floor," the report reads.Artest grabbed the victim multiple times and pushed her to the floor, the report states.The reason for the altercation is listed as "anger over marital issues and comment (the victim) made to (the) suspect."The unidentified female called 911 at 9:23 a.m. Monday stating she'd been assaulted by Artest. The tapes were made public Tuesday."I need someone (inaudible) I need to make a complaint," the caller says on the 911 tape. She reported that Artest was taking her car."He's taking it now. I broke his windshield," she says to the operator.A male operator then asks, "Is there some fighting going on?""Yeah, he's upset," she responds.The operator asks if she's been hit."Oh, yeah, my hand is bleeding," she said.A child can be heard in the background of the tape. The operator keeps the female caller on the line and asks her again, "Did he hit you today?"She said "yes" and the tape ends.The recording had been edited to remove any information identifying the victim and any other confidential information, officials said.Artest was booked at the Placer County Jail and was released around 2 p.m. Monday after posting $50,000 bond. California law prevents officials from releasing the name of domestic violence victims. It was not clear if the victim lived at the Loomis home with Artest.After interviewing both parties, Artest was arrested on charges of domestic violence and using force or violence to prevent his victim from reporting a crime, sheriff's spokeswoman Dena Erwin said. Geoff Petrie, the Kings' president of basketball operations, said the team was removing Artest from the team, pending a full investigation."The Kings have excused Ron Artest indefinitely from any further participation with the team due to his arrest today for domestic violence," Petrie said in a statement. "The Kings will continue to accumulate reliable and official facts and information over the next several days before taking any further action."Artest is no stranger to violent outbursts. He was involved in a brawl on Nov. 19, 2004, between Indiana Pacers players and Pistons fans at The Palace in Detroit. When a confrontation between players seemed to be over, Artest, lying on the scorer's table, was hit with a cup filled with an icy beverage. He bolted into the stands in a rage, followed by fist-swinging teammate Stephen Jackson. Artest and teammate Jermaine O'Neal later slugged fans on the court. Two days later, Artest was suspended for the rest of the season - 73 games, plus the playoffs - in a move that cost him almost $5 million. In 2004, Artest completed anger management for a domestic violence charge, and the mother of his children was charged with the same crime for hitting Artest in 2002.The crime report and related evidence are being compiled and will be presented to the Placer County District Attorney's Office for review by the end of this week, said Dena Erwin, spokeswoman for the Placer County Sheriff's Department.Artest is scheduled to be arraigned 8:30 a.m. March 22 at the Placer County Courthouse.- The Associated Press and Gold Country Media's Jenna Nielsen contributed to this report.
