I want to be a grandma when I grow up

For Joshua on "Working to live or living to work" (on page A4 of the Aug. 25 News Messenger). "What do you want to be when you grow-up?" You could have heard a pin drop when I answered that same question in seventh grade. When it was my turn I said "I want to be a grandma."Well, I'd never had any grandparents, my mother was 38 years old when I was born and they were all gone. I thought it would be real nice if my children had some grandparents.The teacher looked at me as though I had misunderstood the question. But after so much quiet in the room she said, "Well, perhaps that is something we would all like to be."I was saved by the recess bell - oh joy! - 'cause I knew I was going to do whatever job that would come my way professionally, so I did not have a ready answer for that line.The Lord must have heard my answer though, 'cause I am grandmother to three, great-grandma to six and great-great-grandma to one so far - all happy and loving.I surely do enjoy your columns, Joshua, they give people some room for thought. P.S. Our teacher did not ask "What profession are you going to choose?" So my answer was exactly right - it just wasn't what they all expected.
