Applications for city's rental voucher program available

The Roseville Housing Authority begins accepting pre-applications today for the Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance program, formerly known as the Section 8 program.The Roseville Housing Authority, which administers the federally funded program on behalf of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the cities of Roseville and Rocklin, will accept pre-applications until Jan. 31. All applications that are received or postmarked by Jan. 31 will be accepted.Applications are available at the Roseville Housing Authority's office, 311 Vernon St., or on the city's Web site at www.roseville.ca. us/voucher. The Housing Choice Voucher program provides financial assistance to pre-qualified, very low-income individuals or families to help them pay their rent. The Roseville Housing Authority has a limited amount of vouchers available and the application process is intended to help maintain a "waiting list" of candidates as possible recipients for future assistance.All applicants must meet certain income requirements for their individual family size in order to qualify for this program.For example, a family of four must not have a gross annual income that exceeds $32,050.Income levels are set by HUD and full information about all household sizes is available by visiting our website.Applications received by the Roseville Housing Authority this month will be entered into a computer-generated lottery that will help create the waiting list. Applicants who live or work in Roseville or Rocklin; are elderly, disabled, or are a family with minor children; are involuntarily displaced, and/or are Home Start graduates, will receive a preference when determining their waiting list order.A person's position on the waiting list will not be disclosed.When voucher assistance becomes available, the Roseville Housing Auth-ority will contact pre-applicants at the top of the waiting list and work with them first to complete an application. The average time on the waiting list is one to three years. However, some individuals or families could receive a voucher within three to six months.
