Granucci new AD at Roseville

When Erin Granucci was a three-sport standout at El Camino High in the late 1980s, one of her school's main Capital Valley Conference rivals was the Roseville Tigers. "I swore I would never teach there (at Roseville)," she said.Seventeen years later, Granucci not only teaches biology and physiology and coaches soccer at Roseville High, she is the school's new athletic director.The 34-year-old took over the position this month in the wake of the death of former Athletic Director Casey Griffin, who died Dec. 3 after suffering a heart attack."We have to regroup and obviously we're still healing," Granucci said. "It was an unusual circumstance, but I always knew I'd get into (being an athletic director). But there was no hurry. I knew it would happen here or if we ended up going somewhere else.""We" refers to her husband Greg Granucci, Roseville's boys basketball coach. The two worked together for a year at Rancho Cotate High in Rohnert Park before moving to Roseville in 1998. "It's interesting because I can see where the majority of people would see this as odd. But for us, this is our life," she said of the arrangement that has her presiding over an athletic department and coaching staff that includes her husband."While we're in this environment, we'll keep it professional."Erin Granucci, whose father Jim Eaton and uncle John Eaton coached baseball at Mira Loma and Del Campo respectively, grew up in an athletic environment.She participated in soccer, basketball and track at El Camino, and currently coaches boys and girls junior varsity soccer at Roseville.
