Funeral services today for Granite Bay teen

Funeral services for a popular Granite Bay teenager who was killed in a hit-and-run last week are scheduled for 9 a.m. today at Granite Bay High School.A celebration of the life of Courtney Larren Parker will take place in the gymnasium at the school, family friend Becky Michalkiewicz said. The service follow s a separate vigil held Monday night, she noted."It was an absolutely beautiful gathering," Michalkiewicz said. "There were candles, and it was organized by cheerleaders in the area, and everyone had just wonderful things to say about her."Parker was walking home with a group of friends from Taco Bell shortly before 10 p.m. June 14, but turned to head back to the eatery with a friend to retrieve her cell phone, officials said.She was walking along the right shoulder of Auburn-Folsom Road near Douglas Boulevard when she was struck by a vehicle, which continued south on Auburn-Folsom Road without stopping, officials from the California Highway Patrol said.Parker was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she was put on life support, until her family could be by her side and her organs could be donated."She has donated three organs so far that have helped other people," Michalkiewicz said. "That's just the type of person she is. She is so loving and giving and never has an unkind word to say about anyone."Parker recently completed her freshman year at Granite Bay High School, where she was a cheerleader and a standout athlete. She is the daughter of Dale and Nancy Parker, and is survived by her brothers Dijon and Thomas, and her sisters Tishika and Trisha. She also leaves behind her grandmothers, a grandfather and several aunts and uncles."She was just so nice to everyone," said Michalkiewicz, whose family lives across the street from the Parkers. "This is such a close neighborhood and everyone is still in shock, just going through the motions. It's so surreal; it's just a nightmare."CHP officials said a Folsom woman came forward in the case and is being investigated as possibly being the driver involved."We have a person of interest that says she was involved in an accident on Auburn-Folsom Road in the Granite Bay area roughly the same time as this one," said CHP Officer Mark Williams. "We're trying to see if it's a separate incident or if she was involved in the young girl's incident."Authorities were processing the unidentified woman's vehicle Friday to see if there is a link to Parker's incident.No charges have been filed, but the incident remains under investigation.Neighbors and friends have set up an account to help the family with expenses.Anyone wishing to donate toward the Parker family's expenses can visit any local branch of Bank of America and inquire about the trust fund, account number 0120569685.
