Folsom Soccer Club board in need of new members, ideas

I am concerned with actions by the Folsom Youth Soccer Board and their Select Committee. For readers unfamiliar with the select program, it is competitive soccer with tryouts and seasons running from June until January. Given the lengthy season, I believe it is critical coaches who stress positive feedback and treat players fairly lead the select teams. I have been involved in Folsom youth sports for 15 years, coached soccer in the Folsom Soccer Club for 13 years - the past two as an assistant on a select team.The head coach is knowledgeable, but extremely serious, focused on winning, provided very limited positive praise and was unfair in determining playing time. Therefore, at the end of last season, 6 of the 14 girls on the team approached me and asked me to coach.I applied and had an interview with the Select committee, a group of seven who picked coaches. I shared my and the other five families' concerns with the current coach. I was dismayed to see the coach was on the Select committee and the board. I did not hear anything for two weeks, even though I contacted the Select chairman numerous times asking if other information was needed. No calls were returned. I then saw an announcement on the club Web site that the select coaches were announced and the coach was retained.I emailed the Board president, and asked how the concerns regarding the coach were considered in the selection process. The president responded the board was not informed of any complaints, but he would investigate and get back to me. I left two subsequent messages, but have still not received any response.Last week I heard of a similar situation where 9 families from a team of 15 had signed a letter asking for a new coach, because of lack of positive role modeling. This coach is also on the board and also retained a head coaching position for the upcoming year. The political coach selection process and non-communication is appalling. I am looking for other parents who would like to run for the soccer board and bring positive change to the Folsom Soccer Club.Ric Goc (ricgoc@yahoo.com)
