Sophia F. Baranek

In Loving Memory ofSophia F. Baranek4/30/1912 - 7/13/2007Sophia F. Baranek, a long time resident of Orangevale, died on July 13, 2007 at the age of 95. She was born April 30, 1912 in Wynn, PA moving to California in 1929 at the age of 17.She and her family made their living initially through farming in the Orangevale area, transporting their fruits and vegetables to Lake Tahoe for sale.Miss Baranek began work at McClellan Air Force Base in 1942 as a procurement clerk and retired from McClellan in 1972. In retirement, she enjoyed knitting, a good game of pinochle, travel, an occasional trip to the casinos, and of course, family.She annually hosted Christmas Eve and family reunions in the tradition of her parents in the large family farmhouse in Orangevale.She was active with the American Business Women's Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Save Ellis Island Foundation.Miss Baranek was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.She is survived by sister-in-law, Dolores Baranek of Roseville, and her nieces and nephews: Bernard Joseph Ryan of Sacramento and family; Joseph Macpherson of San Jose and family; Richard Macpherson of Murphys and family; Dorothy Clark of Roseville and family; Catherine McCullough of Albuquerque, NM and family; Jeanne Baranek of Nahant, MA and family; Barbara Plaskett of King City and family; Robert Baranek of Porterville and family; John Baranek of Courtland and family; James Baranek of Salem, OR and family; Bernice Shelton of Orangevale and family; Judith Fo of Palo Alto and family; Connie Fodor of Stockton and family; Stephanie Herzog of Boulder Creek; Thomas Herzog of Courtland and family; Michelle Bowen of Grass Valley and family; Diana Allen of Lincoln and family; and Edward Baranek of Magalia and family.Numerous great nieces and great nephews also survive her. She will remain in our hearts forever.Friends are welcome to join the family for services on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Divine Savior Catholic Church in Orangevale. Viewing will be available at the church before the service. Rosary and viewing will be held Thursday, July 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Folsom.Graveside services will follow at Lakeside Memorial Lawn in Folsom. Reception will follow at her home in Orangevale.
