Falcons 21st in final Cal-Hi state football poll

The Colfax Falcons finished ranked 21st in the final Cal-Hi Sports State Div. III football rankings which were recently released.Colfax posted a perfect 10-0 regular season but was handed an 18-17 loss in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III playoffs by Manteca, the team which finished in the No. 20 position, one spot ahead of the Falcons in the final ratings.Crespi of Encino, 11-3, and Southern Section Div. III Notes & Highlights - Tesoro showed promise last year with no seniors on the team and the new school delivered that promise last week with a 21-14 win over previous No. 2 Western of Anaheim in the CIFSS Div. IX title game. Sensational senior Devonte Merrifield almost led Western to a come-from-behind win with a 30-yard punt return for a score in the fourth quarter, but the Tesoro defense stopped the Pioneers when it most counted. Evan Handa scored all three TDs for the Titans. Tesoro's only losses this year were to Div. I schools San Clemente and Dana Hills.- Alec Campbell rambled for 214 yards and two TDs while QB Shawn Long ran for the three scores and threw for another as Yosemite of Oakhurst won the Central Section Division III crown by crushing Fresno High, 45-13. It is Yosemite's second section title in three years. The Badgers came into the playoffs after finishing in a three-way tie for first-place in the North Sequoia League with Chowchilla and Dos Palos.
