A home that's fit for a King

GRANITE BAY - Ron Rose has a personal stake in who buys Chris Webber's Granite Bay home. Not only is he one of the two Realtors selling the former Sacramento Kings star's mansion, he was also Webber's neighbor. "I hope they're as quiet as Chris was," Rose joked about who his new neighbors would be as he showed the home off to media outlets Thursday. Webber's 6,214-square-foot Los Lagos home officially went on the market Friday. Rose and his real estate partner, Barbara Tonso, who specialize in million dollar homes in the Granite Bay area, said it will go fast. Although Rose said a Los Lagos home typically takes anywhere from two to six months to sell, he expects Webber's will be sold within 30 to 40 days."There is so much interest," Rose said. The four-bedroom, 3½-bathroom pad includes an eight-car garage as well as many other extras, like a massage room with a waterfall. The 1.3 acres the home sits on features a custom built pool and spa, an outdoor barbecue (which, oddly enough, was not a Webber), and natural landscaping with large oak trees and granite rocks. The house is located at 6302 Calle Montalvo Circle and sits off Auburn-Folsom Road. Rose said it is the most private home in Los Lagos, something Webber especially liked. "Chris wanted something stylish, something elegant, but more than anything, something that could give him privacy," Rose said. "He only has one neighbor - it's me - and I only have one neighbor - it was Chris." This secluded getaway comes at a steep price - $2,499,000."This house was special to me and as a result I was very hands-on in the changes and improvements," Webber said in a prepared statement. "I also loved the privacy and setting with the trees in the backyard." Webber, a 12-year NBA veteran, joined the Kings in 1998 and resigned as a free agent in 2001. He bought his Los Lagos home in September 2003, and completely remodeled most of the rooms. He was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in February of this year.One of his favorite rooms was the master suite and large bathroom, which includes a shower/steamer that has several nozzles. "And this," Rose said, pointing to the huge tub, "is the largest jetted tub on the market. You can't find anything much bigger than that." Erika Bjork, the community development director for Webber's company, C. Webb Incorporated, said the ex-King also made sure there was "plush" carpet in the bedrooms and walk-in closet. "Chris loves to be able to sit on the floor and watch TV," she said. The one room Webber apparently left alone was the gourmet kitchen. "This was the one room he didn't touch," Tonso said. "He must have liked it." "There's two of everything," Rose explained. "There are two sinks, two dishwashers, side-by-side ... refrigerator and freezer, two ovens, there's even two islands," one of which separates the kitchen from the great room. Leaving the area was hard on Webber, Bjork said. He was in the middle of additional re-modeling when the trade occurred. "He loved this house, he loved the area, he loved the fans," Bjork said. "He was planning to retire and probably stay here after his career was over." Bjork said Webber is currently living in "an undisclosed area" on the East Coast, but he won't be a stranger to the Sacramento area. "He's taking some time off, thinking about where he wants to live for the next season. But it's not like he won't have ties to the area," Bjork said, explaining that Webber still owns property in the Sacramento area that he's not planning to sell. "There was no point in keeping this house," Bjork said. "The most he'd be here is a month, maybe. That's one of the downsides of being a professional athlete. You have to pack up and leave when you're traded." Almost everything but a pair of size 16 dress shoes and an extra tall, extra large suit has already been moved out of Webber's home. However, Rose's memories will remain forever. "He was fabulous," Rose said of the NBA star. "A funny story - one day when my (9-year-old) son was playing basketball in the backyard, Chris stopped by and raised the hoop to 10 feet and they played one-on-one. That was a special day for him."
